Mary’s greatest need was the same need that all of humanity has and that is SALVATION. Mary needed a Saviour and so does each human being.
In Luke chapter 1 Mary, who was a young Jewish girl was visited by the angel Gabriel and the Angel informed her that she had favour with God and that she would conceive a child who was to be named Jesus.
Luke 1:30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Gabriel stated that the Baby to be born would have a Kingdom. In the future the Lord Jesus is going to reign on this earth visibly and personally.
Jeremiah 3:17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the Lord; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
The Once rejected King by the Jews will be the reigning King over the Jews and not only the Jews, but the whole world.
Mary submitted to the Lord’s will and after Gabriel made his announcement to her of the birth of Jesus Mary goes and visits her cousin Elizabeth.
When Mary visits Elizabeth she praises God for his grace and the great things he has done.
This song of praise is known as Mary’s song or the Magnificat which begins in Luke 1.46.
If you read the words of Mary’s song you will read the words of a teenager that is spiritually mature and who completely trusts in her God.
Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Magnify means to make great or to elevate. Here in the Scriptures we see that Mary’s desire was to magnify the Lord but we also see that Mary knew that God was her saviour.
Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my SAVIOUR. 48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Some people think that Mary was perfect. In fact the Catholic Church teaches that Mary was without sin, but the Bible teaches something very different.
There has only been one person that has ever lived that was without sin and that is Jesus Christ.
The book of Romans makes it clear that there is no one that is righteous.
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
We know that Mary was a Jew and according to the law of Moses every Jewish mother who gave birth to a son or daughter had to offer sacrifices to God. One was a burnt offering and one was a sin offering. You can find this in Leviticus 12.
If you read Luke 2.21- 24 you will find that Mary and Joseph came to the Temple to offer sacrifices, one being a sin offering.
Mary was a sinner and Mary needed a saviour and she gave birth to the coming Messiah whom would become the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world.
Mary wanted to magnify the Lord, because she knew that He alone was her saviour.
